The Reason Why Nigerian Politicians Play ‘Do Or Die’ Politics – Shettima Reveals

The Chairman, Centre for Democracy and Development, Kole Shettima, has revealed why Nigerian politicians see politics as a ‘do or die’ affair.

According to him, Nigerian politicians who have a ‘do or die’ attitude to the political game were those who lacked skills to fit in other areas and do not have any option apart from politics.

He explained that while politicians in advanced democracies could do other jobs at a time, including being in government and lecturing at Universities, the case was different in Nigeria.

Shettima stated this while speaking with the newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

He added that the Nigerian system had not provided its elites the space to circulate. This, he said, was the reason most Nigerian politicians see politics as a “do or die affair’, a development he said was dangerous to the country`s polity and development.

“We don’t have space where people can move from one job to another, in other words, there is no circulation of the elites, except in the political space.

“Successful politicians can also go to a research institute, thus they are not stocked in one place, and so leaving government is not a death sentence for them. Unfortunately in our own situation, we have not really succeeded in creating that circulation of the elite.

“That is why it is very important that we create a system that allows the elite to move around and to circulate. Such that they can be in the university today, tomorrow in government or in research centres so that they are not just stocked in one place,’’ he said.

A side-by-side photo of his wife Cynthia and Cee-C have been making rounds, with many saying that Cee-C might just be his sister-in-law, as the resemblance between both ladies is uncanny.

He uses this means to extract money from people in order to give them 70odds for 10k but at the end all the games will be red and that when they chat him back to know why the games are all lost, he will tell dem the source got caught and that they should pay for another source again and if you insist for the first deal he will block and remove you.

See 7 Candidates Ready To Take Over From Buhari In 2019 – Who Do You Prefer?

Some eminent politicians especially from the north have indicated interest to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Here is a list of seven Nigerians who have indicated interest to contest in the upcoming 2019 Presidential election and possible dislodge President Muhammadu Buhari from his current position.

Here are seven of those according to Pulse report.

1. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

Pulse attended a ‘Kwankwasiyya’ event in Lagos last year where this former Governor of Kano State made it clear he’ll be throwing his red cap into the presidential ring one more time.

Kwankwaso has been weighing his options as it pertains to which political party to pitch tent with. At the moment, he remains an unsettled member of the governing APC.

He has also been building his grassroot Kwankwasiyya political movement across the States with renewed vigour.

Expect Kwankwaso’s presidential declaration soonest.

2. Ibrahim Dankwambo

That Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, is being readied for a presidential run by the northern elite, is perhaps the worst kept secret in the land.

Pundits have also scored him high on governance in his State.

Dankwambo has been dropping sufficient hints to suggest he’s seriously considering a run.

At just 55 years of age, his ‘youth’ appeal sits pretty well with a few folks and kingmakers.

3. Sule Lamido

Former Jigawa Governor Lamido has told everyone who cares to listen that he’ll be Nigeria’s next president, although it doesn’t help his cause that the EFCC has been haunting him and his sons for a while now.

Lamido has been traveling the country to set up campaign offices as he readies self for the big announcement.

4. Pastor Tunde Bakare

He wouldn’t say what year God has told him to run, but he’s commenced his campaign already, dropping God’s name at every opportunity.

Blessed with an oratorical prowess, Bakare has been aiming darts at his friend President Buhari, time and again; while setting out his campaign stall pretty nicely, one television appearance at a time.

5. Atiku Abubakar

He dumped the APC for the PDP because he wants to be president so bad.

Atiku’s presidential declaration is now only a matter of when.

Nigeria’s former Vice President has been holding consultative talks daily while assembling a campaign structure to do the business.

Expect his formal declaration before the end of first quarter of 2018.

6. Fela Durotoye

A sweet talking motivational speaker with sartorial flair to boot, Durotoye has already announced his desire to be president of Nigeria if the “powers that be” let him.

He’s got his work cut out, though.

7. Donald Duke

Gave a good account of himself as Governor of Cross River State from 1999 to 2007.

His biggest handicap could be the lack of a political structure, base and platform to call his own.

Duke looks the part and fits into the prototype of a modern day, urbane presidential candidate. However, good looks don’t win you the presidency in Nigeria.

It’s almost as though he went to sleep after the PDP denied him the presidency in 2007.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday revealed why he decided to write a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Following his scathing letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed he wrote Buhari out of his deep concern for the situation in the country.

Speaking on Thursday at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oke Ilewo area of Abeokuta, shortly after the Coalition for Nigeria Movement was inaugurated in Ogun State,

Obasanjo said he was surprised that many Nigerians were worried that he had exchangec pleasantries with President Buhari at the African Unity summit at Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, few days after he wrote the open letter to him (Buhari).

He noted that he never condemned the Buhari-led administration in totality, as he explained he gave him commendation in areas where it had performed well.

Obasanjo, however, spoke in parable, hinting that big masquerades have taken the centre stage, and the small masquerades must quit the stage.

He said,:-

Last week, I issued a statement which I did not do lightly or frivolously but out of deep concern for the situation of our country.

“I wonder why some Nigerians were worried why I had to pay respect to the Nigerian President at Addis Ababa. That’s my own upbringing as a well-born and bred Yoruba boy.

“That doesn’t mean that what I have said about the President, which I did not say out of bitterness and hatred. It is evidence that the President has performed, in some areas, good enough.

” In other areas not good and a proper advice which he may take and he may not take.

“I didn’t do that out of malice or out of ‘bad belle’; I did it out of my respect for that office and my interest and I hope in your interest and the interest of Buhari in Nigeria.

Award wining singer Davido, is definitely living his dream life as he just acquired a 2017 Bentley Benyata SUV, worth about $262,000 [94 million naira].

He shared the photos on social media, and according to him, it is currently being shipped to Nigeria. Currently the fastest (187 mph) and most expensive SUV on the market, the Bentayga is Bentley’s opening salvo to the ever-expanding SUV ranks.

The singer who had a great time in 2017 also showed off his new Icebox luxury wristwatch. Recall that, Davido, who is known to always boast of his achievements on social media has come out to tell the world that he has the phone numbers of 13 presidents on his phone.

Then I went back to school and the love that I was shown was overwhelming, let alone the way girls began to treat me. That one song with the video made my father realise that I had the talent. And then, I did the song, ‘Dami Duro’.

“The song became so big and I remember that the President at the time called my father to talk about me and the song. Even during my father’s business meetings with his friends, they would mention my name and the song. Before long, I started travelling and doing shows around the world.

Now I have the phone numbers of about 13 presidents on my phone and if I call them, they would answer the call. Then the award came and it set me on another level.”
